Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?
Whilst a referral isn’t required for clients to see psychologists a GP review and Mental Health Care Plan is required for clients to access Medicare benefits.

What is a Mental Health Care Plan?
A Mental Health Care Plan or Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHCP/MHTP) is a plan for those with a mental health disorder. The plan is usually made out by a General Practitioner and often includes a referral to a Psychologist or other mental health specialist. The plan allows clients to access Medicare rebates for psychology services for up to 10 sessions per year.

What are the fees involved with seeing a psychologist?
Our standard fees for 1 hour psychology sessions are:

Clinical Psychology
$220 upfront with a $141.85 Medicare rebate
Gap = $78.15

Health Psychology / Psychology
$175 upfront with a $96.65 Medicare rebate
Gap = $78.35

Does private health cover psychology sessions?
Some private health funds cover psychology sessions, we recommend checking with your provider to find out the amount your fund covers.

What do I need to bring to my psychology appointment?
We ask that you bring any paperwork related to your psychology appointment such as a Mental Health Care Plan or referral letter from your GP. We also ask that you bring your Medicare card or, if you’re claiming using a private health fund - the card associated with this.
